Postcard From the US: Monument Valley
This post is also available in: German
This week’s postcard comes to you from Monument Valley, Arizona. John-Ford-Country, that is – I really felt like putting on a cowboy’s hat, get on a horseback and smoke a cigarette when I was there. Well, I didn’t. No horses available. Cigarettes neither. Monument Valley is one of the world’s sights that everybody seems to know but that still look greater when you actually visit them. Everybody has seen the towering rocks that actually are the remains of a former rock plateau in numerous Western movies – not to mention a huge Marlboro advertising campaign with spots in cinemas and the handsome Marlboro Man grinning from every other billboard. And still, the sheer endlessness of this national monument within the Navajo Nation Reservation gives you the idea that there is a lot left to explore.
